RAVELRY is a knit and crochet (some weaving too) community. It's an immense database for patterns and information. There's groups to join and the possibility to organise your own projects, patterns and yarns. All you need is a username and password to open a new world. HERE is our Ravelry page.
Join your local STITCH 'N BITCH, a group that gathers in public to knit together, chat and hang out. Very inspiring, educational and fun! A great way to meet new people. At Ja, Wol we host a Stitch 'n Bitch every saturday from 14:00. But you are always welcome to sit at our table and hang out.
Use nice yarn. Lots of people feel they're not worth it because they're not good enough... Nice yarn makes a nice product. And nice doesn't necessarily mean expensive. Natural yarns come in different price ranges. Get some help at your local yarn store.
If you want to learn more, we advice you to take some LESSONS. It has a lot of advantages to learning online. A course or a lesson has a learning curve, we start at A, go to B and end with C. It starts with the basics and build on from there. You tube and Pinterest are fantastic to use for reference purposes, but it will not tell you the most logical way to learn. (Don't start with cables!) If you already know the basics it's fabulous to find all these techniques online. If you are a beginner, find a good book for beginners and use the net on the side. Or join a lesson at your LYS (local yarn store). It's a fun way to learn when you are in a group. The teacher can figure out how you learn best and teach accordingly. It's a quick way to learn too. Mistakes are easily and quickly solved.
Most importantly; practice makes perfect. Practice, practice, practise. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, start again, it's all part of the process. If you don't understand a direction in a pattern; just do what it says. You'll probably get it once you've done it. And before you know it you'll make the most beautiful things!
